How To Choose A Cleaning Frequency To Suit Your Needs?

Keeping your home clean and tidy of course helps to make it look nicer and more welcoming, but it can also give you and your family a safer, healthier environment to live in. For that reason, many people choose to hire a cleaning company, so that they never have to worry about cleanliness and comfort, even when they’re too busy to clean themselves.

But, to keep your home consistently clean, tidy, safe and comfortable, how often should you schedule professional cleaning?

Every household’s needs are different, but the below guide should at least give you an indicator of cleaning frequency:

Households with a single person

Bi-weekly, or even monthly cleaning would probably be enough for someone living on their own, unless they’re very messy! Tasks like dusting, vacuuming and wiping surfaces can usually be handled by the occupant, while bathroom, kitchen and deeper cleaning tasks can be carried out fortnightly or monthly.

Households with 2 or 3 occupants

Bi-weekly cleaning may suit a smaller family, although if there are pets and very small children involved, a weekly clean might be more effective to keep everything sanitized and maintain a healthy living environment.

Households with 4 or more occupants

Generally speaking, when a home is shared by 4 or more inhabitants, it’s harder to keep on top of cleanliness, and nothing less than a weekly clean will be sufficient. High traffic areas can be prioritised, and a deep clean scheduled every month or so.

Households with pets

Depending on the type of pets you share your home with, a lot of mess may be generated on a daily basis, and you may need a weekly, or more frequent clean to deal with dander, a buildup of hair, and to keep bedding and other pet items and spaces, hygienically clean and smelling fresh.

Households with kids and hectic schedules

If you’ve got kids and your lifestyle is a little busy, a weekly clean would probably work best; anything less and the place will quickly become messy and unhygienic.

Households containing clean-freaks

Particularly cleanliness-conscious people may wish to schedule a cleaning service more than once a week, and even if this may seem over-the-top to some, it might be just what’s needed to help certain types of people feel comfortable in their own home.

Households with health considerations

If there are members of the household who are particularly vulnerable, such as the very young, the elderly, or anyone suffering from a prolonged illness, weekly cleaning can help keep bugs and bacteria at bay.

Seasonal cleaning

Many households benefit from spring cleaning, but why should they spend hours dusting and scrubbing when a professional cleaning company can get the work done in half the time, and likely more effectively, too. A good, deep clean as the warmer weather arrives, can give everyone in the household a refreshed feel and a renewed sense of positivity.

Summer typically brings with it lots of pollen and other external allergens, which can be tricky to keep on top of without the help of a cleaning service. In the height of summer, a weekly or bi-weekly clean is recommended.

And when fall and winter come around, more mud can be traipsed through the home, and moisture can quickly build up in damp areas such as the bathroom and maybe the kitchen, too. A weekly clean can keep the entire home feeling clean, cosy and welcoming during the colder months.

How often you schedule a cleaning service is of course, entirely at your discretion, but under many circumstances, a weekly clean – coupled with a monthly or bi-monthly deep clean – is the best way to maintain a consistently clean home that everyone in the household can benefit from.
